Writer's block? Never!!
I've been fighting with writer's distraction. It's a little different than a normal distraction, although those contribute. But it's more than t
hat. As I'm plugging through Starbird II, I have a foot print in the original hand written manuscript, but I'm in parts where I'm making drastic changes to characters and events that were never envisioned in the original, So I have to leave the written foot print and go into full on create mode. It's a place where I believe every writer loves to be; I'm no different. My problem is writer's distraction. Every little thing draws me away from the material. SQUIRREL!! In some instances, you know exactly where you're going and how you're going to do it, but you stop and look for something to be distracted by. SQUIRREL!! I need to check my Facebook for the uhmpteenth time or I need a drink of chocolate milk, or this or that or, SQUIRREL!! Not entirely sure how to remain focused the way I need to. I wouldn't call it writer's block. I term that as sitting there in front of the screen staring blankly at an empty page. I'm at least writing, albeit slowly. Sometimes just a sentence or two a day. Is there a way to force focus yourself? I'm trying to follow my own advice that I learned from reading blogs about writing. Even if it's painful to write it, you have to write it. By painful, I'm talking about having to drag the words out onto paper. Even if you think what you're "dragging out" onto the paper is utter crap, you still write it. You would be surprised, as I often am, at how much you think what you're writing is garbage and then you go back and read it and other than a tweak or two or five or ten, it's actually pretty good. So, how do you do it? You stick to the crap gun and let it fly, even if it's only a sentence or two a day. It'll get better.
